Ube Cream Cheese Frosting is beautifully purple from the Ube Halaya, which is a Filipino condiment and dessert ingredient.
This Ube Cream Cheese Frosting uses Ube Halaya which is a purple yam puree from the Philippines. There aren’t too many Ube frostings on the internet, let alone Ube Cream Cheese Frosting! The Ube Halaya has a jam-like consistency and delicate earthy flavour. It is the perfect ingredient to enhance that original cream cheese frosting!
A bit of food colouring is used in this recipe to enhance the purple appeal, but definitely not too much that it seems artificial.
Ube Cream Cheese Frosting using Ube Halaya
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup Ube Halaya
- 2 drops red food colouring optional
- 2 drops blue food colouring optional
- 1 cup icing sugar
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, use an electronic mixer to cream all ingredients until smooth and glossy. Can heat up slightly in a microwave before use. It will be more runny and glossy to be poured over cinnamon buns or any baked goods.
I would recommend heating the cinnamon bun with the frosting in a microwave for 10 seconds.
